Mother-Daughter Surf Day
We have our choice of Gulf or Atlantic - and the waves are usually better on the Atlantic. My daughter's school had a reward field trip that she didn't want to go on, so I packed up the surfboards and took the day for a mother-daughter beach trip. Anastasia Island State Park is pretty nice mid-week when there aren't a lot of other people around. The waves were a fun 3-4 feet, and there was a lovely off-shore breeze. It was nice to spend time in the water with her. She's a great swimmer, but still learning the timing to catch waves. I had a new board, longer than any of my older boards, and had trouble myself getting enough weight forward to make the drop. I wear a hat in the water. At one point I had lost the hat, but found it about 15 minutes later as I rode in. I saw it floating ahead, steered towards it, dropped my hand into the water as I passed it, and grabbed it!
